Welcome to my first blog post! To start with, I make no secret of the fact that I love fairy tales. Dolls with a fairy tale theme are pretty darn irresistible, so it's also no surprise that I have a fondness for the Ever After High line from Mattel. These knockout dolls are one of my favorites to design for (and I'm not the only one!) because they are at once beautiful, modest, and unique.
As a franchise, EAH is not perfect. Not by any stretch, but it's a dang sight closer than other girl's franchises. The spirit of camaraderie that exists between the characters, this idea that we're going to stand for what we believe and we're going to do it together, girls and guys, while also being respectful of the adults in their lives (particularly dads, can I get an Amen?) is so refreshing.
For my first post, I decided to review the First Chapter Apple White doll I was able to score on clearance at my local Walmart store.
Here she is in her box and the plastic removed. If you're careful you can get these dolls out without destroying the box.
Apple is, of course the leader of the "Royal" faction at EAH. She takes her destiny seriously, that is until circumstances demonstrate to her that the future isn't as cut and dried as she had been lead to believe.
All of the first wave, and many of the fancier dolls later, came with these handy-dandy little stands. They're actually rather sturdy. Now if Barbie did that, I'd be all set.
Apple was really impressive right out of the box with her articulation and attention to detail. Apple has movement in her head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees, which makes her an amazing model for clothes, but more delicate than a Barbie for playing with. So if you're buying one for a child, take the 6+ warning label seriously.
Apple's costume is exquisitely patterned with flowers, vines, and apples. She also has a little shrug and a touch of lace.
Apple wears fishnet stockings and these awesome shoes! Her apple and bows motif is carried over in her shoes.
Apple also comes with pretty jewelry and a tiara. She has a ring, a bracelet, a necklace, earrings, and a purse as well. The detail is amazing on these pieces.
If you have the chance to buy one of these dolls, I say take it! EAH is one of the best doll lines available right now, and can be found at Target, Kmart, TRU, Toys R Us, and Justice stores.
