This blog is about somebody that I actually know. Known on Flickr by her handle Black Rose Bride, Isabella Summit employs her massive imagination in creating a world of intrigue and danger... with dolls.
Known as the Realm of Black Rose Bride, toy and doll characters from dozens of franchises collide and interact on a massive scale with interesting effects all around. Isabella is a big fan of classic monster movies, Marvel comics, Monster High, Ever After High, and Shakespeare, and loves to combine all of these things in ways that are always unexpected and always impressive.
The world of Black Rose Bride is built primarily around three connected stories, known as the "Mischief's Moll Saga", though miniature adventures, (such as trips to the coffee shop, Monster High character Frankie Stein going on dates with Nightcrawler, and trips to Funko-town with the Fourth Doctor) occur from time to time. The first story, Mischief's Moll, tells the story of Katherine, the daughter of the Phantom of the Opera, caught in a web of lies by one of many Lokis that inhabit the Realm (Isabella really loves Loki as a character) and is genuinely surprised when one, Kaiju Loki, (She calls him Kai) offers her compassion and true love. Each changes the other for the better and together they win over the evil Lokis. (Rated PG-13)
In Mischief's Moll 2, we find Katherine consumed by the desire to get revenge against the Loki who hurt her, but she finds it at the cost of her relationship to her sisters and her beloved Kai. Kai, convinced that Katherine's head has been turned by magic she inherited in the last story, sets out to save his wife from herself before she kills herself or someone else. (Rated PG-13)
In Freaks of Fate (which is not nearly as steamy as the cover appears, Isabella is a very devout Catholic), Katherine is found to be pregnant with Kai's daughter, who will inherit his powers. Everyone wants control of the infant before she's even born, and Loki will do anything to get his hands on the baby. Kai, desperate and brokenhearted turns to the Rebels of Ever After High for help when he can't trust anyone else. Will Kai be able to save Katherine and the baby before Loki gets his hands on them? (Rated PG-13)
Finally, my Favorite, the ongoing story of Henry "Hal" Lancaster, Prince of Wales (future King Henry the Fifth, fictionally speaking) and Princess Apple White of Ever After High. Apple's friends think Henry's a gold-digger, after Apple's money, Apple thinks Henry has a heart of gold under that rough exterior. The gang from EAH end up helping both of them learn a lesson, Hal to behave like a real prince, and Apple not to trust everything someone says. (Rated PG, some innuendo... this is partially based on Shakespeare after all.)
This young author is going places, and going places fast. I don't say this as her (online) friend, I say this as someone who knows talent. I know that the World of Black Rose Bride is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but if you are so inclined, please check her out!
